Hoof trimming crate for sows – simple and gentle hoof care
Regular hoof trimming is important for both animal welfare and production. When a sow stands and walks well, she eats and drinks better and produces more milk. A good hoof trimming crate makes the job easier, faster and safer – for both the sow and the person doing the work.
The PiggyTrim Hoof Care crate is built for systematic hoof trimming in sow herds. The sow walks in by herself, and the crate is then lifted hydraulically.
When the floor disappears under her, she settles down and lies calmly, so the work can be done at a comfortable height with free access to all four hooves.
Why use a hoof trimming crate
• Gentle and calm for the sow
• Comfortable working height
• High ground clearance – can be placed in walkways
• Simple two-button control
• Easy access to all hooves from both sides
The crate can be placed wherever it fits best in the barn. It’s available with fittings for both solid and slatted floors.
When lifted, there’s plenty of space underneath, so it doesn’t get in the way – even in narrow passages.
Hoof trimming in practice
Trimming usually takes around 5–10 minutes per sow and can be done with a one-hand angle grinder.
Once hoof care becomes a regular part of herd management, the number of lame sows drops quickly.
Healthy hooves make it easier for the sow to get up, move around and feed her piglets – which improves both welfare and productivity.
